PRA Chapter 5 News: April 2000

The next meeting of PRA Chapter 5 will be April 30, 2000 at 1 pm, Nut Tree Airport, Vacaville. This is a week later than usual since April 23rd is a holiday. Happy Easter everyone!

The March meeting was held on the 26th at Marysville. It seems like Joe's hangar holds even more gyros every month! After the meeting several went flying while several more worked on their machines.

Bob was wiring his Barnett, now with Prince propeller installed. The other Bob made final cheek plates for his Bandit Pro. Shawn was busy finishing a Bandit-style tail, to be mounted on his two-place Air Command. Mark went runway-flying in the Predator with Gary's micro-balancer, each time taking a vibration reading and returning to make another rotor blade adjustment. The other Gary continued work on his most-ultra-light Bandit, weighing in at only 238 lbs. The rest of us hung around for a while and supervised all this work!

Now that Spring is here, the club sure is busy with everyone either flying or getting their gyros ready. Our annual picnic is now only 2 months away. Bob L will get us a barbecue grill and Donna will supply the contest trophies. In addition to the normal timed pylon, bomb drop and man and machine awards, Bob suggested a new one: most fly-ins attended. This one will be presented at the end of the year to whoever flys their gyro to the most fly-in events this year.

For those of you going to the Great Valley Fly-In at Watts-Woodland on May 6 or 7 (that is everyone now, right?), there is some information on-line at www.woodland-sunrise.rotary5160.org/Flyinpage/GVFlyIn.html or you can call 530-662-9631. The flyer I have says "Antique, Classic and Experimental Planes". Surely they won't mind if we add some gyros to the display! Fly safe and be sure to get your NOTAMs as they will have a temporary tower and class D airspace in effect for the popular event.

Troy sent me an e-mail with an interesting idea for a fun flying weekend later this summer. What if there was a dry lakebed much bigger and closer than El-Mirage? Hmmm, I'll let him tell you all about it at the next meeting.

Until then, happy flying and Happy Easter!
