Arrest in Sweetheart Scam

A woman has been arrested in the “sweetheart swindler” case on Tuesday (6-10-03) for obtaining property by false pretenses and is in custody without bail. She has been identified as 36 year old Belinda Mitchell from Sacramento.

The case came to light when the victim, “Tim” came forward about a woman who befriended him and scammed him for over 300,000.00. The investigation has led to the arrest of Mitchell and possibly more individuals in the future. These scam artists usually have others involved and use all kinds of deception to get money and property from unsuspecting victims. They also use many false names and other scams, such as driving up to residences and offering to buy your vehicle at a low price. They will also try and fix a dent in your vehicle with very little experience to do so. They will also stoop very low and use their own children to portray a sad story to gain monies.

This should be a strong reminder to individuals to be very wary of anyone trying to get cash or property with stories of doom, work for low prices or flat out scandalous schemes.
